Artist's Comments

Done for a Memento Mori theme.
(Aaand I ripped the title off one of my favorite Lisa Gerrard albums! Schweet!)
But I added something of a lovers/valentine theme to it.
Something along the lines of a knight carved in stone on a cathedral's interior pillar, and a radiant angelic woman on a stained glass window.
We may never know whom they were, if they ever were living, but know they are there forever.

When I get the chance, I'll upload the untouched scan.
Colored pencils, watercolor pencils, watercolor paints, charcoal, ink, and Corel. Phew.
And check out that real authentic looking paper curl in the corner.

Beautiful work, Inki... the contrast between colour and greyscale works beautifully here. My, how your work is coming along in leaps and bounds!

I agree with the first comment, the contrast is great. I can definitely see distance between the stained glass and the column, good job. Everything has definite shape as well; the curves curve and the bricks have their own boundaries. You could have pushed some of the values a little more, like around the column portion that is facing us, as it is opposite a light source, but it's fine.
I'm sorry, but I have a little issue inside my head over the left-most knight and his scale. His face seems to be really stretched out compared to the other knights' heads.
 overall an awesome piece.

:boogie:  I wanted this piece to work so much, and I fretted 'This is too much time for this piece!'
But work and work and work all paid off, and I admit I am tickled, it so much better that stuff I was doing a few years ago!

Thank you for that fantastic write up-critique! :blowkiss:I always welcome whatever anyone wants to say about my work to make it better!
I agree with what you are saying, and some of those facts were niggling me as I finished the piece.
