At first glance, I was almost convinced this was a top-notch graphite pencil drawing. The texture is so unique and fabulously toned, I was sure some artist had taken their time with every shade. Having a pet crow and several semi-friendly wild one, I realize the difficulty translating the complex colors and sheen that corvids have. This get's that smack dab perfect, from the broad back feathers to the shaggy neck. The head angle is a killer, and is the cherry on top. Birds can look particularly silly looking more or less straight at you, or the graceful curve of the beak structure can be lost. This one gives the neat sense of a smart and witty bird, attention rapt in plotting something. I find this piece so gratifying and beautiful, especially as and avid corvid lover. A very professionally done piece all around!
